EmdoorVR's new MR headset reference design has integrated Ultraleap hand tracking

Posted; February 7, 2024

Ultraleap and EmdoorVR have partnered to build a mixed reality (MR) headset reference design that will bring the power of Ultraleap’s hand tracking technology to top-tier hardware OEMs via EmdoorVR’s leading manufacturing capabilities.

Available now, EmdoorVR’s new reference design takes advantage of Ultraleap’s latest computer vision and machine learning models that allow hand tracking to run on the same cameras used for SLAM and controller tracking. Not having to add additional cameras for hand tracking significantly reduces the cost of integration for OEMs, making it easier and faster to incorporate a world class hand interaction solution in a new headset design.

Hand tracking is fast becoming a mandatory feature in new headset products, particularly following the launch of the Apple Vision Pro which shipped without controllers. Ultraleap hand tracking is already recognized as the most precise, reliable and advanced hand tracking on the market. By adding these new shared camera models to their already expansive model library, Ultraleap has made it easier than ever before to adopt the world's best hand tracking.

Tom Carter, CEO at Ultraleap said: “Hand tracking provides the most natural way to interact with the digital world – it’s intuitive, accessible and helps to break down barriers between the real and virtual worlds. Integrating our hand tracking into EmdoorVR’s new reference design empowers more OEMs to adopt a cost effective and world leading hand tracking solution that delivers the next generation of interaction that consumers are coming to expect.”

Richard Shi, CEO at EmdoorVR said: “EmdoorVR is excited to partner with Ultraleap on a cutting-edge new reference design for MR headsets that showcases the best solutions that virtual reality has to offer. Headsets will soon need to have hand tracking enabled as a default, and as Ultraleap is the world leader in hand tracking technology, it was crucial to ensure that it was included in our reference design. We look forward to serving more Tier-1 customers together.”

Ultraleap’s world-leading hand tracking technology has been developed over 10 years using machine learning and computer vision. The technology is applicable to a wide range of use cases across industries, including extended reality, automotive, digital signage, industrial automation, consumer electronics and location-based entertainment, to bring natural interaction between people and technology to the next level.
